Spring Asthenia: Symptoms and treatments

As much as we love the warm temperatures springtime comes with, one thing we can’t always avoid is „spring asthenia”. As real as it can be, this medical condition is defined as a constant state of exhaust and fatigue caused by season changing. Along with fatigue, asthenia can also be accompanied by melancholy states or, in some cases, mild depression.

According to doctors, seasonal asthenia usually affects women and can be caused by the fact that our body is unable to adapt to a new environment. Moreover, asthenia may also be due to hormonal changes and poor diet choices that lack the vitamins and minerals we need.

Although it can be easily mistaken for depression, seasonal asthenia has its own specific symptoms that can help us identify and prevent it. One of the early signs of this condition is the loss of interest in daily activities, doctors say. Other symptoms that can threaten our day to day life include:

  • Unjustified sadness;
  • Irritability and anxiety;
  • Difficulty concentrating;
  • Low appetite;
  • Headaches;
  • Apathy;
  • Exhaustion;
  • Muscle aches;
  • Low blood pressure.
Remedies for spring asthenia

Even if asthenia goes away by itself after a few weeks, when our body finally adapts to the new season, there are some ways to speed up the process and prevent most of the symptoms.

The easiest way to influence spring asthenia is our diet plan – this should include foods high in vitamin C and E, magnesium, iron and calcium. Therefore, a spring diet should include raw fruits and vegetables, nuts such as peanuts or almonds, fish and seafood, as well as a balanced dose of dairy products.

Also, try to stay well hydrated and replace coffee with green or ginseng tea, in order to stimulate vitality and reduce stress.

Last but not least, don’t forget about what usually makes you happy. Reading, walks in the park, sports, short vacations or simply some time with your loved ones can be the best remedy for spring asthenia symptoms.
