Frequently asked questions

WHY DOES THE INSURANCE PREMIUM INCREASE ON A YEARLY BASIS?

This happens mainly due to inflation of medical costs for such things as new technology and know-how.

IN CASE I DO NOT HAVE ANY CLAIM, DO I RECEIVE A DISCOUNT?

The Insurer doesn`t offer discounts if the customer doesn`t make a claim; the price increase applies to all customers equally, regardless of the policy usage.

WHICH IS THE BEST HOSPITAL FOR A CERTAIN DISEASE?

Depending on your diagnosis, BUPA will recommend a list of several medical suppliers you can choose from.

IN CASE THE DIRECT DEBIT OF THE CREDIT CARD HAS NOT BEEN SUCCESSFUL, WILL I BE INFORMED ABOUT IT?

Yes, the Customer Care department of MediHelp will contact you in this case.

CAN I FILL IN AND COMPLETE THE INSURANCE POLICY OVER THE INTERNET, OR IS THE MEETING WITH THE CONSULTANT COMPULSORY?

Considering that MediHelp has to receive the documentation in original, a meeting with the consultant is highly recommended, especially in the situation when we can offer additional information to select a suitable insurance plan. Nevertheless, if preferred by the customer, the documents could be sent by courier service as well.

IN CASE I DO NOT GO TO A RECOMMENDED HOSPITAL, OR I DO NOT INFORM THE INSURER THAT A MEDICAL SITUATION HAS OCCURED, WILL THE CLAIM STILL BE PAID?

The claim will be paid as long as the medical services which were used are covered by the policy, regardless of the chosen supplier. The insurer will not limit the access to one supplier only, and the customer has the freedom to choose a clinic or hospital for the needed medical services. BUPA has a direct billing agreement with over 8500 hospitals and clinics worldwide; nevertheless, we can try and obtain direct billing agreements with other suppliers which are not on the list. The customer has to contact BUPA / MediHelp in order to facilitate the direct billing process. BUPA normally accepts a direct billing procedure, as long as it has the agreement of the hospital/clinic as well.

WHAT IS UNDERWRITING?

Underwriting refers to the process of assessing the medical risks, which an insurance company undertakes when concluding an insurance contract.

HOW MUCH WILL I PAY IN 20 YEARS?

We cannot calculate the exact amounts, which depend on the variations of the medical inflation index. It is important to be aware of the fact that insurers increase prices on a yearly basis.

HOW AND WHEN DOES THE INSURANCE EXCESS FEE APPLY?

In case you have chosen a policy with excess fee, this applies once a year and represents the amount that the client will have to contribute personally during one insurance year. For example, in case of a claim for a policy with 625 EUR excess fee, BUPA will pay the medical costs incurred over the amount of 625 EUR.
